LONDON, ENGLAND (3rd November 2026) – Bookable.health by Healthtech-1, the platform that pioneered automated GP registrations, has saved GP practices in England an estimated 550 years of staff time since 2022. It comes as the Chancellor and Secretary of State for Health launch an independent review into how AI and technology can boost NHS productivity.

The London-based company passed 500 years of staff time saved this year, and completed its four-millionth automated registration in October. That is admin time once spent registering new patients by hand, now done automatically.
The Government wants to know where AI can give the NHS back time - general practice admin is already part of the answer 🔍
In the Budget, the Chancellor and Health Secretary asked Mark Bailie to lead an independent review on NHS productivity and AI. It will report in early 2027 and inform the next spending review.
The review will focus on “the practical opportunities presented by AI and technology to transform services for patients and boost NHS productivity.”
The Budget also reports that the NHS delivered more than £10 billion of efficiencies and savings in 2025–26. Healthtech-1’s figures show that a lot of this productivity sits in general practice admin, where automation is already working at national scale.
More than a dozen manual steps per patient. Now used by more than 1 in 4 practices in England 🚀
Registering a new patient by hand means more than a dozen separate steps, from identity checks on the NHS Spine to transferring the patient’s record from their previous practice.
Bookable.health’s Automated Registrations does this work inside practices’ clinical systems, so reception teams can spend their time on patients rather than paperwork. The Bookable.health platform also provides tools to navigate new patients to appointments, and to triage existing patients to the right care, first time.
The Automated Registrations service is now used by 1,663 GP practices across England, which represents 27% of all practices in England, and 45% of practices in London.
Patients are registered in under 10 hours, down from 84. Practices get five times more data at sign-up 📈
When registrations were done by hand, patients waited 84 hours to be registered. With automation, they now wait under 10 hours. This year, the full registration process took a median of just 5.5 hours.
The service also captures far more information at sign-up, giving GPs a better understanding of their patient population.
Manual registration | Automated registration | |
|---|---|---|
⏳ Wait to be registered | 84 hours | Under 10 hours |
🗂️ Data points captured | 17 | 85 |
🔬 In an independent evaluation in Surrey Heartlands, recording of patients’ ethnicity rose from 23.8% to 96.4%, giving practices better data for prevention and population health.
📰 In October, Bookable.health was featured in techUK’s flagship report, From Analogue to Digital: How the UK Tech Sector can Deliver the 10-year Health Plan, which celebrated innovations that have successfully scaled in the NHS.
💬 Raj Paul, Co-Founder and CEO, Healthtech-1, said: “The Bailie Review is asking the right question: where can AI and automation give the NHS back time? General practice is part of the answer. Every hour a receptionist spends typing up a registration form is an hour not spent helping a patient get care, and 550 years of staff time shows this isn’t a pilot any more. We look forward to sharing what we’ve learned with the review.”
💬 Arif Ladha, Practice Business Manager, The Integrated Care Partnership, said that “since introducing Healthtech-1, around 95% of our registrations are automated. The customisable form captures everything we need first time, cutting out manual data entry and reducing patient follow-up, which frees up staff capacity for other priorities.”
💬 And a Practice Manager from Langley Corner Surgery highlighted that “Since implementing Healthtech-1, the surgery admin team have been able to focus on other duties without the concern of registrations building or accuracy of registrations which has saved time and effort for all involved.”
📊 About these figures
Healthtech-1 estimates that a manual adult registration takes around 15 minutes of admin across 15 steps. This is the same baseline cited in the Surrey Heartlands evaluation.
Staff time saved = registrations fully automated by Healthtech-1 × 15 minutes, divided by a 1,800-hour working year (225 working days × 8 hours, allowing for NHS Agenda for Change annual leave and bank holidays).
The figure excludes registrations passed back to practices to complete. All figures are from Healthtech-1’s platform data as of 28 October 2026.
